Mrs Marjorie Lee Fook joined J&C Re-creation Centre in August of 2017, a mere four years after J&C’s doors were opened. Mrs Lee Fook sported an erect athletic structure, beautifully coiffured hair and a sharp wit. While we, staff, felt honoured to serve Mrs Lee Fook, the lady who was the personal assistant to our country’s first Prime Minister, and who, to our thinking, played a valuable role in the independence process, Mrs Lee Fook did not indulge in any self-aggrandisement. She quite humbly assured us that she was simply doing her job. She acknowledged that it was a demanding job which took her away from her family a great deal and she thanked God for her mother who helped with the children. Each time we attempted to “big up” Mrs Lee Fook for her contribution to the nation she was swift to remind us that she had merely been doing her job.

About one year after joining J&C, Mrs Lee Fook’s sight started deteriorating. The loss of eye sight in no way affected her vision or insightfulness. She continued to reign as the queen of Jeopardy and truly enjoyed trivia as played here at the Centre. Her extensive travel kept her in the lead whenever games involving characteristics to foreign countries were played with Clients. Her willingness to try all activities though visually impaired initially was astounding. Sometimes she carried a cynical smile at the beginning of the activity until a true smile lit her face, when she realized she could do the activity or really enjoyed it. We had her do everything from Carnival jump-up (realistically its chipping down the road for our elderly clients), to musical trivia (oldies calypso, etc), chair volley ball, cricket, etc. our clients have exhibited serious competitive streaks and Ms. Lee Fook wasn’t backward.

Over the years Mrs. Lee Fook endured health challenges which took their toll on her physically and perhaps on her spirit because her joie-de-vivre started to slip. She no longer had a desire to participate in most activities though she maintained the mental capacity to so do.
A few months ago, Mrs Marjorie Lee Fook moved from being a daily client at J&C to being a patient at a twenty-four-hour home for the aged. Mrs Lee Fook is currently 99 years old and we look forward to celebrating her 100th birthday with her at the end of this year 2026.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Lee Fook passed away before she made it to that tremendous milestone. May she rest in peace! Amen! She is missed by all of us here at J&C.
We are grateful to J&C Recreation Centre for the many years of caring and loving service they provided to our mother.
The centre encourages senior citizens to participate in activities that stimulate both the mind and body. These programs help keep them active, happy, and young at heart.
The caregivers are warm, friendly, and always ready to assist whenever needed. Special recognition goes to Cynthia Carrington-Murray and Jennifer Greaves, two of the directors, who deserve tremendous kudos for creating such a wonderful establishment.
J&C Recreation Centre brings peace of mind to many families who need this type of support and compassionate care for their loved ones. We are deeply appreciative of all they do and wish them continued success for many years to come.
