To the wonderful staff and cherished community of J & C Recreation Center,
As I write this note, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. From August 2023 until March 2025, my father, who turned 88 years old, has spent his weekdays in your care, and the impact you have had on his life and on mine is something I will carry with me forever.
What began as a practical decision for his wellbeing quickly became one of the greatest blessings our family has known. The center, and the people within it, have given my father joy, dignity, companionship, and purpose at a stage of life when many seniors feel forgotten. For that, Iam deeply thankful.
Daddy initially started by attending some of the monthly field trips to various parts of the country. He thoroughly enjoyed the experiences even though he was a bit timid at first, since he had early-stage dementia, so he was not his usual brave self.
The staff greeted him with warmth and respect, calling him by name, speaking to him patiently, and welcoming him as though he had always been part of the community. I watched his shoulders relax, his eyes brighten, and his spirit lift. I knew then that he was in the right place. Over time, this facility became more than a center he attended—it became a second home, a place where he felt valued, understood, and cared for.
I want to express my deepest appreciation to the entire team, because each of you played a role in making these twenty months meaningful for my father.
To all the caregivers: thank you for treating my father with dignity. At his age, he sometimes needed help with tasks he once did effortlessly. You never made him feel embarrassed or a burden. You approached him with gentleness, patience, and respect. You monitored his health, ensured he took his medication, and paid attention to the small changes that only trained eyes would notice. You gave him safety, and you gave me peace of mind. Daddy has always been a man who enjoyed conversation, music, and a good laugh. You gave him all of that and more. Whether it was games, craft activities, or simply sitting and talking, you kept his mind active and his spirit engaged. You helped him feel alive, included, and purposeful.
To the kitchen staff: thank you for nourishing him with meals that were not only healthy but comforting. At his age, appetite can be unpredictable, food is a form of care, and you provided that care with consistency and love.
And to the other participants, the friends he made along the way: thank you for welcoming him into your circle. Companionship is one of the greatest gifts we can offer one another, especially in our later years. You shared conversations, laughter, meals, and moments that enriched his life.
Daddy departed this earth in May 2025, but the last 20 months of his time here at this center were memorable and very emotionally enriching. My prayer is that this facility continues to thrive. May every senior who walks through these doors experience the same warmth and care my father received. And may each of you be strengthened and encouraged in the important work you do every day.
